    Worried about pancreatic cancer

    Male 27
75 days ago I woke up with stomach pain and lots of gurgling. Since then the pain has moved around my abdomen and in the middle of my back. I have been to the dr who tested the function of all my organs and the blood came back normal. I am almost sure of it at this point. My poop has been smelling bad and it floats in the toilet sometimes they are very light colored. My dr seems to think nothing is wrong and has referred me to mental health but I know my body. I have never had a problem digesting anything.

First off, Pancreatic Cancer is extremely rare at the young age of 27, secondly, there are many reasons for your discomfort, least one being cancer yet you immediately jump to one of the most difficult and devastating cancers?

With all due respect, your doctor is probably correct in that seeing a mental health professional at this point is in your best interest.

In the many years I have been on this forum and the multitude of people posting fear of Pancreatic Cancer, I cannot remember one that has posted within our Worried Forum that actually was ever diagnosed.

Follow your doctors advise and make that appointment.

    Lisa

Pancreatic cancer isn't the only ailment that causes GI symptoms like you've described. Anxiety can cause them as well, and anxiety is a lot more common than cancer particularly among guys in their 20's.

I think a lot of people with an empathetic heart are going through symptoms they associate with pancreatic cancer nowadays- especially with news of Alex Trebec's treatment on the air. But Mr. Trebec is old- you are young- there is little for you to worry about .

Your username defines your trouble: fear. Listen to doctor. You know your body, but do you know your mind? Your thoughts? Have a look at how many actual symptoms of disease that anxiety can cause: over 100 out of the 150 or so that our bodies are capable of producing. You are in a high anxiety demographic, living in a culture of high anxiety. Don't think so? As your family and friends if they think you are anxious. you will have your answer.

Scroll down the page. For reference, I have had 5 of the 7 most common symptoms of pancreatic cancer. Was I worried? No! It was something else entirely.

To date: 1 cancer, relapse, second relapse/mutation into 2 cancers, then 3 cancers simultaneously, 20 chemotherapy/GVHD drugs in 11 regimens (4 of them at least twice), 5 salvage regimens, 4 clinical trials, 5 post-transplant immuno-suppressant/modulatory drugs, the equivalent of 1,000 years of background radiation from 40+ CT series scans and about 24 PET scans.
Both lymphoid and myeloid malignancies lend a certain symmetry to the hematological journey.

Believing in the redemptive value of suffering makes all the difference.
