PLEASE POST USERNAMES IN THIS FORUM - EDITED 27-12-2007

Hi everyone. We have a very big problem with "members" who join the forum, do not post any messages to the board, but who do send messages via the Private Message system. Often, they only send a link.

In order to try to get control of these sorts of activities, I ask you to use this forum to post username and other information about "members" who engage in this type of activity. I believe this will help by:

Embarrassing the H*** out of these "members"
Let all members know who to watch out for
Let all the administrators know the username of these "members"

Probably the last of these is the most important. Sending me emails about them is OK but I am not the only administrator who can deal with these people. Inica (In) and other administrators can also delete members.

You need to post at least the username. That is really the only information we need. However, you can also post the date you received the PM and state other details. Please, do not post the actual link.

    Thank you for your help.

Let me clarify something: Use your best judgement when reporting a spammer. So far, I have not had anyone complain and no one has reported anyone that was not a spammer. However, I would hate to delete an other wise legitimate member. Here are some clues:

People who send you only a link (no message)
People who send you unsolicited and unwanted PMs that are obvious ads. If in doubt, do not open the link... send it with the username for me to check.
People who send obvious links to porn sights.
People who fill your PM window with similar links.

Even with these guidelines, it is possible for you to make a mistake about someone. Do not worry. Just send me the information and I will do the checking for you.

Let us keep this community safe and healthy.

One other thing... do not post the link that they spammed you with. That is like forwarding their spam to others . All we need is their username. Thanks.

On a related note, is it technically possible to automatically delete all the PMs from a banned user?

Hi Joepet. Sorry about that issue. That poster was banned, so I hope the pm's came day before yesterday, as that's when the ban took effect. I know we can each personally delete them in our own profile area, but need to investigate if there is anyplace to do a wholesale delete of the pm's. There is none that I've seen, so I made sure this went into the admin forum for the techie people to look into.

Thanks for the report. That person was prolific, to say the least.

Left my embrace to live with our Heavenly Father in October of 2007 and now breathes with ease forever. I will miss this gentle, giving soul with the easy smile for the rest of my days, but have faith we will be together again. He's just getting a little break from me!

An EvanMassey12 asked for money in a private message. I found this rather odd. Is it normal for people to ask for donations like this?

    Message:

"Hey what's up? My 9 year old cousin has been diagnosed with brain cancer, and the family needs financial support bad. We have a website up where you can donate via Paypal or Credit Card (card info is not saved or recorded), and we also accept cash or checks via mail. Would you be interested in helping us out? Anything at all helps. Even $5 goes a long way to helping Ryan out. Let me know! You can contact me on here or at: -----------------Evan"
