    Di,
I wasn't suggesting it was original thinking by yourself, it was a statement within your post as you clearly referenced.
However it was well made within the contents.

    Hi Immuno

No apologies for not reading the copious amounts of scientific literature you threw at me. No amount of overselling preclinical results will sway my belief that eating a particular substance or food can actually protect you from cancer, after all it was you defense of maitake extract that attracted you here.

I have a real job and I also do a lot of work here. our work consists of providing support to people with cancer, not worrying or trying to educate others in how to prevent it. I may get around to reading all of the material you sent but I doubt it.

I will let David H Gorski speak here on the prevention of cancer

So what is the real way, as opposed to the fantasy way, to prevent cancer? It’s simple (although not easy). Don’t smoke. Lose weight. Exercise. Eat a healthy diet (and, no, that diet doesn’t have to be a raw vegan diet, as some would have you believe). Get your vaccines. Get screened for certain diseases. If you’re at a high risk for cancer, use science-based regimens that might involve taking, yes, pharmaceutical products to reduce your risk.
Because, in the end, cancer is complicated. It’s not a single disease. In fact, individual cancers can be argued not to be single diseases in that they exhibit incredible heterogeneity within individual tumors. So is preventing cancer.
    Cheers

Interesting thread. I came across this blog with (IMO) excellent background information about supplements in general and even a specific article about medicinal mushroom extracts (like Maitake).

Essential for the bioavailability is extraction, that much is clear. We cannot digest raw or dried and powdered mushrooms.

    Wink Sorry to ChemoMan

Hi ChemoMan. After months of not seeing this thread I came back and re-read my last comment, which was angrily aimed at you.

I must have been in a bad mind set, to have written so aggressively.
    Sorry about that!
    I deleted it now.

Also I agree with you about not considering supplements and extracts as cancer prevention. We can do our best to keep a healthy body, mind and lifestyle. And that's probably about the best we can do to prevent most major problems.

    Anyways, peace!

And of course, take your maitake extract!!

Thumbs down MAITAKE/ARIMIDEX INTERACTIONS- I agree with your husband check with your doctor

But my husband says that i should check with my oncologist before doing so, as we don't know if there is any interference with Arimidex. Does anyone know about Maitake D-fraction and does it have any interactions? Thanks. Nicole
Hi Nicole, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer and did my treatments with Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY. I was taking numerous supplements after my diagnosis UNTIL I started my treatments. It was suggested that I hold off taking any supplements until I was finished with my treatments because there is not enough information whether it interferes with the medications during treatment. So I listened to Sloan and once I was done with my treatments I resumed with all my supplements. I LISTENED TO MY CANCER TEAM AT SLOAN. I agree with your husband check with your doctor. God Bless you, Mary Ellen (auntmelli)

Responses to this thread are over 4 years old. Discussion related to alternative therapies are not discussed on this forum as we are a science based discussion group/forum.

Any supplements taken before, during and after treatment must be discussed with your physician.

I am closing thread to avoid confusion.
